Safety First
Smell gas or suspect a leak?
- Leave the area immediately — do not use switches, phones, or lighters.
- Once clear, call Fosston Municipal Utilities: 218-435-1737 (24/7). Then call 911 if needed.
Call Before You Dig — 811
State law requires contacting Gopher State One Call at 811 (or 1-800-252-1166) at least 2 business days before digging. It’s free and prevents damage to underground lines.
What to look for: pipeline markers, right-of-way corridors, and yellow line-locate flags/paint. Report any damage or suspicious activity near pipelines.
Excess Flow Valves (EFV)
Customers may request an Excess Flow Valve (EFV) on eligible service lines. Minimum install charge is $150; additional costs may apply based on location/restoration. EFVs automatically restrict gas flow if a service line is damaged; service is restored after repairs.
Large commercial services typically require a manual shutoff valve and valve box; charges are case-by-case.
To request an EFV or manual valve, contact City Hall (Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM) at 218-435-1959.
Lead & Copper Rule Revision (LCRR)
The City has submitted its service line materials inventory to MDH. As of 10/16/2024: 0 lead, 4 galvanized-requiring-replacement, 2 unknown, and 695 non-lead service lines. Check your address in the LITT map or call 218-435-1959.
