The East Polk County Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) is licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services to provide day training and habilitation (DT&H) services to adults with developmental disabilities and related conditions.The East Polk County DAC provides DT&H services including transportation to persons residing in eastern PolkCounty and northern MahnomenCounty.The East Polk County DAC services are accessed through the Polk County Social Services Department.The East Polk County DAC is currently licensed to provide services for 28 people.
The East Polk County DAC is a private non-profit corporation governed individually by a local board of directors and has been in operation since 1972.The DAC receives reimbursement for services from federal and state Medicaid dollars, based on individual client eligibility.Counties and some school districts pay for services for some.Contributions from families, businesses, civic organization and foundations are essential part of the mix for the DAC
The East Polk County DAC is committed to integrating the persons it serves into the life of the community.To this end regular community training opportunities are provided to all the individuals that attend the DAC.The DAC staff encourages the use of natural community environments which foster increased opportunities for socialization and the development of relationships.The DAC operates a beverage can recycling center, janitorial services and fire starter manufacturing to promote vocational skills and opportunities for those attending the DAC.The DAC also provides training in: Communication skills, Behavior management, Leisure/Recreation skills, Self Care skills, Social skills, Assistive Technology and opportunities to participate in Special Olympics.
The East Polk County DAC’s staff is made up of talented, well-trained employees.They have the education, experience and commitment necessary to provide high quality, customized services to meet the needs of the DAC participants in a wide range of opportunities.
